Earlier this year I came across this great program, Kids Cook Real Food. (Thank you to Heavenly Homemakers for opening my eyes to this!) It’s a well-developed course to get kids in the kitchen to learn how to cook real food. That’s right…REAL FOOD. We aren’t talking about teaching them how to use a microwave to heat up ready-made stuff. We are talking fruits, veggies, proteins, etc.
I was intrigued! I want my children to know their way around the kitchen. And, I have to say, I’m struggling to keep up with their dietary desires! Some days it feels like I no sooner get breakfast cleaned up and it’s lunchtime. Or, lunchtime passes and they want a snack. Wouldn’t it be great if they knew how to fix themselves something to eat? YES!
Anyway, we’ve been navigating through the course and are having a blast. My kids love it. And, their most favorite part? Using a knife! YIKES! I know, the thought freaked me out too. But, kids need to learn about knife safety. They will eventually need to use them – mom can’t cut their food when they are off at college. Start early so they can become responsible with them.
Your kids will think you are the best mom ever for letting them play with knives…responsibly!
